Psychologist


About

July is an experienced Psychologist trained in Canada and Singapore. She has been working in mental health since 2008 across a range of mental health services in Canada, Indonesia and Malaysia. Her broad experiences allow her to adapt an integrative approach to psychological services. She offers a non-judgemental, culturally sensitive and family inclusive therapy, whilst adhering to ethical guidelines to ensure a safe practice. 

July has extensive experience working with both adults and children who have experienced trauma. She uses attachment and brain-based models to empower individuals to overcome the impact of early challenging experiences and working together with clients towards developing more adaptive and functional intra and interpersonal relationships. 

Since her relocation to Australia in 2014, July’s work has focused on providing specialised trauma-informed assessment and intervention to children, adolescents and adults from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. These clients experience difficulties related to overcoming a traumatic past, troubled relationships, depression, anxiety, insomnia, parenting concerns, and life transitions. 

Additionally, July understands the challenges and struggles many LGBTIQA-identifying individuals are dealing with. She is passionate about working with the LGBTIQA community.


Therapeutic Approaches

July tailors her treatments to the individual, their presenting problems, and what clients would like to achieve. She provides sensitive and in-depth therapy, and her approach stands on the foundation of empathy, respect and validation. 

She is trained in delivering a range of evidence-based interventions. In her practice, she delivers:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Mindfulness

  • Transdiagnostic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for insomnia (CBT-I)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT)

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

  • Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)-informed approaches and skill training

  • Other trauma-focused therapies.


Languages

July is fluent in English, Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia, and Bahasa Melayu.


Besides her dedications in clinical work, July is involved in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and insomnia research and projects in Australia and around the Asian and South Pacific regions. She has authored journal publications focusing on PTSD and insomnia, and two book chapters on working with children.

Professional Memberships

Currently, July is a consultant and trainer in a capacity building project covering Indonesia, China and Thailand based on the WHO community Mental Health Model. July is also an active member of Status of Women Committee at United Nations Association of Australia (SWC UNAA), and the Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council Inc (AGMC).
